I have a funny story to tell. I found an old parchment of America’s Declaration of Independence from a Goodwill store in Portland, Oregon. I thought it would be a good table prop so I asked my loving partner-in-crime JD to bring it to Wellington since I couldn’t fit it in my luggage at that time. This weekend I found a reason to finally use it. JD, who is an American, baked bread for the first time in his entire life! Alas, he is free to make his own bread from this day forward!
I placed the parchment and the rest of the props on the table where I shoot food when he made the move to place two cups of coffee on it. I must have hurt his ego when I screamed ‘No!’ But I’m glad I did stop him because as soon as I removed my props and let him do his own thing (he also takes photos as a hobby), he knocked down a cup of coffee. It was messy cleaning it up. But thank goodness my Declaration of Independence was out of the way before disaster struck!
JD’s easy savoury beer bread is adapted from Samantha Linsell (www.drizzleanddip.com) ‘s recipe which was adapted from radio personality IanF’s basil beer bread recipe. You can find the original recipe here. http://drizzleanddip.com/2013/07/10/easy-basil-beer-bread
Aside from basil and beer, JD’s version has sun-dried tomatoes, black olives and edam cheese, thus making it mediterranean-ly savory.
If you haven’t done it yet, bake your own bread and set yourself free!
